Fight Passage of the AHCA

On Thursday, May 4th, House Republicans rammed through a wildly unpopular, staggeringly inadequate replacement for the Affordable Care Act, the American Health Care Act. This bill was passed without input from the Congressional Budget Office or public hearings. The impact of this legislation on health insurance coverage, insurance premiums, and the federal deficit remains unclear.

The bill allows states to charge higher premiums based on member’s health status and segregate people with pre-existing conditions into states’ high-risk pools. People with pre-existing conditions could face astronomically high surcharges. In addition, the GOP willfully allocated inadequate funding to states to assist high risk pools members with premiums.

House Republicans knew it was so bad a bill that they included a provision exempting their own insurance from new AHCA rules.

​

The Senate has already decided that they will draft their own bill and they are in no hurry to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

We must fight back to ensure that we get the health care bill we deserve.
